In-Depth 0.8 Ammo Preview
As a Tarkov player, whether you want to remove stroganoff or remove hamburgers, the leading question is always what ammo to use. Our scientists have examined the newest 0.8 data released by the developers.
(btw our sheets are updated with that data)
9x18Let's go through this for each caliber. First we examine the 9x18 cartridge.
The changes are minimal, only the BZT round has a lowered base damage (-9) and the 9P has damage increase (+9). The penetration values remain unchanged. If the armor resistance levels remain the same as before 0.8 then no single 9x18 can penetrate class 2 armor.
9x19The PST round gets a (+2) bump in penetration which might move its capability near class 3 penetration at close ranges. Base damage increased for PSO (+4) and CCI (+3).
(pre 0.8 armor resistance at 50 meters)
Penetration value changes for SP10 (+3), SP12 (-3), SP13 (+5). Base damage changes for SP10 (-1), SP12 (+4), SP13 (-4). Armor piercing types are moved firmly above class 3 resistance.
Penetration values: SP-5 (+5), SP-6 (+7). Base damage SP-5 (+4), SP-6 (+7). The SP-6 is moved into an area where it can possibly damage class 4 armor at very close ranges.
(Values on the right are penetration changes and below base damage changes)
Instead of typing the values, here is a screenshot of the sheet. Non-AP rounds lose a large amount of their penetration, while armor piercing rounds get more. The inverse is true for base damage.
The M995 gets a strong +20 increase on its penetration power.
PST gets +5 penetration, moving it very close to class 3 penetration at point blank.
In line with the assault rifle calibers, the sport and hollow point rounds lose penetration and armor piercing is increased.
The 7.62x51 gains penetration power across the board. It can be assumed only class 5-6 armor targets will make a difference in selection of ammo type.
Very strong gains across all ammo types for penetration power. One can only imagine the point and click adventure a Woods raid will become with Mosin rifles.
No visible changes.
Slugs lose two points or penetration. the buckshot has its damage increased to 256 (+56) or +28% damage.
(new data for 0.8)
Perhaps the most interesting change is pricing. Assault rifle and larger calibers get a 20-40% price increase, while most pistol and shotgun caliber prices remain the same. This could, in theory, move rifles into a place where their use is costlier. This then could make submachineguns, shotguns and pistols more attractive for poor players.
On the 5.45x39 (hamburger removal caliber), the cost per damage point went from 0.7 roubles to 1.1 roubles. However the .366 remains dirt cheap in comparison and costs only 0.5 roubles per damage point, and its base damage is 69 on average, while the 5.45 only offers 54.9. The result would be that all the unshaven hermit players with their crooked farmer teef and messed up ghetto .366 can get revenge at the AK74 snobbery, provided their targets are not too well armored.
