ASVAL

The world-eater. It will devour your enemies and your money. Valleys have been carved into mountains by rivers of tears from reddit posts complaining about the ammo cost. The weapon made famous by that game where a drunk guy fell off a truck in Pripyat without any recollection of the previous night. Chambered for the proprietary 9x39 round, the AS Val was designed for subsonic armor-piercing wet work. It entered service in 1987.

The AS Val is an assault rifle with a similar control layout compared to the AK weapon systems. It features a firemode selector for semi-automatic and fully automatic fire on the right side. A foldable stock and an integral suppressor

Ammo

The 9x39 was developed to solve the problem of lack of kinetic energy for subsonic ammo. Conventional ammo that was modified for subsonic speeds was too light to provide armor piercing capabilities. The 9x39 is a larger and heavier bullet than the 7.62x39. This translates into high damage output and high armor penetration in EFT. Where other assault rifles have to compromise between damage and armor penetration, the AS Val delivers both without compromise. All ammo types will get through class 3 armor without issue. The SP-5 will get stuck in class 4 armor, more powerful variants of the 9x39 will encounter resistance at class 5.

 

The average penetration is in the high thirties which means it is the only ammo type with a midlife crisis.

 

Shooting

Shooting the AS Val is very easy, even on fully automatic fire, because of the staggeringly low recoil, which is a third of the recoil experienced when shooting an AK-74. The rate of fire is equally staggering at 900 RPM. That means 15 rounds flying downrange per second.

Modding

Its modding options from the manufacturer's side offer two different dovetail mounts for soviet/russian optical systems. This allows the adaption to long range and or night combat.

Summary

The AS VAL is set up for completely silent, subsonic shooting out of the box. The 9x39 provides penetration and damage that on average cracks class 4 armor on the first shot and is only second to battle rifle calibers. And harder targets are quickly torn down by the 900 ROF and a minimal recoil impulse. It offers the same versatility of an AK assault rifle and can be used for any combat situation, whether it is close combat, or long range accurate fire. And the hard penetrating ammo can reach targets hiding behind trees, cars and other solid cover. It features the tactical possibilities of assault rifles with superior ballistic performance with preconfigured traits for subsonic shooting.

Its only flaw is the low muzzle velocity, which makes shooting targets at a distance difficult, as small ranging errors can result in missing the target entirely due to the arched trajectory of the bullet.

The 9x39 combines high damage with high penetration with subsonic speed. Which is a liability for long range shooting because of travel time and little room for ranging errors.

The dovetail mount allows fitting of soviet/russian optics and adapters for western buffer tube stocks are available. Mount rings for the barrel allow for foregrip and flashlight attachment.
