Ash-12

The Ash-12 is a Russian bullpup select-fire special purpose rifle chambered for 12.7x55mm. It was designed for high short-range stopping power in urban environments.

Ash-12 ammo

The 12.7x55 is a heavy subsonic caliber.

• PS12
  The PS12 is the mid-range round that combines average armor penetration with average damage. The term average is within the context of the 12.7x55. It has damage similar to a shotgun slug, with the penetration of an average rifle round. It has a +10% accuracy modifier.

• PS12A
  The PS12A is the low-penetration variant. Very low penetration, combined with very high damage. If the target is not dead on the first shot, a hit in any limb will cut away 37% total HP.

• PS12B
  The PS12B is the hardest armor-piercing variant. First-shot class 5 penetration with enough damage coming behind it to knock down a target with one shot.

Ash-12 Shooting

The recoil is hard on semi-auto, and very hard on full-auto.

Tactical purposes of the Ash-12:

• Assault Rifle
  It covers the applications of an assault rifle. In close and medium-range combat, the low magazine capacity and high recoil are offset by hard damage. 

• Sniper Rifle
  The weapon can be configured for long range shooting. Long travel time of the shot and requirement for precise ranging make for a hard to operate sniper rifle.

Ash-12 Summary

The Ash-12 was developed as a counter-insurgency weapon for urban situations. Its main features are extreme firepower combined with nearly noiseless firing. Unless the shooter is close to the target, then the weapon is still considearably noisy. It fulfills the same tactical application in Tarkov as the AS VAL, but with twice the damage. However also with twice the weight and higher recoil. Shooting at distant targets requires precise range estimation, as the low-velocity ammo leaves little room for ranging errors.

The Ash-12 is a complicated weapon system that requires disciplined operators as it is unforgiving for tactical mistakes. Operators that are willing to put up with it are rewarded with noiseless one-shot knock-down power that will leave heavily armored targets dead before they hear the impact of the round.

With an accuracy of 0.047 the Ash-12 is very accurate for its intended range.

Recoil 4/10
Even for a heavy weapon as the Ash-12 (6+ kg) the recoil is hard. (v226 / h439)

Ammo 10/10
The 12.7x55 combines very high damage with very high penetration with subsonic speed. The ammo selection offers options for soft targets with staggering 165 damage per shot and harder variants with up to class 5 penetration on the first shot.

Weapon-specific Modding 3/10
Two magazine sizes and the capability to fit one weapon-specific suppressor limit the capabilities.

General Modding 6/10
Base configuration offers a picatinny rail on the receiver top plus a second rail on the carry handle. Mounting custom ironsights and foregrips extend the modding capabilities.
