Wipes should not exist

Let's talk about wipes. They should not exist. Because they are just a mechanism to cover up a symptom of a flaw in the game. That flaw is predictability. Predictability is the enemy of excitement. All video games use the idea of intermittent treasure some various degrees to keep players entertained. And the genre of the game does not matter. Here is an example: RPG: Player finds a monster's cave. Player fights the monster. Player kills the monster and loots its corpse, or its valuables, which might be contained in a treasure chest.
